HIDA NO KAMI FUJIWARA UJIFUSA

Keisho 1596 - 1615

The representative Smiths of the Owari School were Ujifusa, Nobutake & Masatsune. The Owari Smiths produced swords of a highly individualistic style.

Ujifusa was born in 1567. He forged swords in Gifu together with his father in 1492. He received the title of Hida No Kami. Ujifusa made Katana in a powerful robust shape. His swords were in great demand all through his career. He seems to have relinguished leadership of his school in 1631.

The sword is an excellent example of his workmanship. The period was the tail end of the Sengoku wars.
