SWORD #245-35 MINAMOTO GYOUKEI (KAO)

Edo Period

1854 - 1859

MINAMOTO GYOUKEI & MONOGRAM

Ansei 2nd year 4th month

This is a sword in Tachi shape with deep curvature with regular width & thickness & Ko-Kissaki made in the style of the Kamakura period. the Jigane is in Ko-Itame Hada and Masamei grain with Ji-Nie attached. The Hamon is Nie-Deki and Gunome Midare with Sunagashi, embedded into Tachi style Koshirae. Overall, a very pleasant combination. Often Smiths made swords in older style to commemorate an ancestor. The sword is of above average quality with a very expensive & artistic Koshirae.
