This is a South African Air Force Officer's dagger of World War II vintage which displays the South African coat of arms with gilded brass fittings, hanger and belt with gilded buckle. Blade and buckle display a stylized gilded edge. Serial#1414.

The reverse langet has the following motto "per aspera ad astra" which translates to "through difficulties to the stars".
